Don't call it a plug

SHOPPERS, a band near and dear to my heart, have undertaken their first ever West Coast tour. They'll be unleashing their unique brand of "hold me down, fuck my mouth/think of you when I touch myself" Syracuse melodic noise punk at the Smell next Tuesday. Come out, support your local punk bands, bring vegan baked goods, shotgun a beer, smash a urinal, etc.

When did this band become so famous?? Why have so many people been asking me for this??? I just hope that Syracuse's favorite noise punk trio doesn't forget me in their rock star glory. New & old material of manic, shrill vocals, distortion that feels like putting your ear through a meat grinder, and audible drumming (a first for Shoppers).

Nah, sorry this isn't a new Fucked Up 7" on the rockstar label Matador or a rehashed LP by Sonic Youth that nobody is going to listen to but they'll still say it's one of their favorite albums of the year (coincidentally also on Matador). This is real Syracuse DIY (insert whatever prefix you'd like here) punk: self recorded, self produced, super distorted on tapes that sell out so fucking fast you can't even get them fucking punk. In before they put out a split on Youth Attack and hook up with Albini and it's suddenly cool to say you like their older stuff better.

Everything about this release rules: the band name, the title, the artwork, the label. Bodychoke was a 1990s experimental group with heavy ties to power electronics but this is a really heavy noise rock album with a slugdy tribal feeling. Reissued on Relapse last year with a couple of extra tracks. Recommended for fans of Swans, Godflesh, etc.

This is a band from New York called SHOPPERS. Their first tape rules and you didn't listen to it, but that's okay because it's in the archives. I'M SO BORED OF NEW MUSIC, but this release kept me from locking myself in a bomb shelter and playing ABBA's greatest hits over and over again. Evol meets Songs About Fucking meets New York fuck all DIY aesthetics with a touch of melodic hooks here and there. Shoppers is a recently formed Syracuse band featuring a member of White Guilt and his girlfriend who is way more cool/talented/attractive/bad ass than your girlfriend and she plays guitar, WHAT? I'm kind of in love. Anyway, this tape will be released by DRUGGED CONSCIENCE, the people responsible for bringing you releases by Cult Ritual, White Guilt, Merchandise, and Weekend Nachos in the past.
