The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower - Love In The Fascist Brothel (February 15, 2005)

http://www.mediafire.com/?zyx0wmdwzzm

“The record is supposed to fuck everybody up. Liberal, Conservative and punk, whatever. Punk has no danger anymore; it’s fashion conscious followers of inept politico whistle blowers are so buried they’re practically dead.” - Sir Chuck Rowell

Remember Los Angeles before it crumbled into irrelevancy, before massive band inbreeding rendered the place culturally stagnant, before Mika Miko and Abe Vigoda decided they would open every show ever over the course of three years? The Plot should refresh your memory; a now defunct furious four piece (RIP Willy Graves) hailing from San Diego. The quartet was known for their infectious blend of jazz influenced punk, churning bass lines, fascist imagery, controversial in your face we don't give a fuck attitude, and lewd homosexual acts that would take place at just about every show ever resulting in them getting banned from just about anywhere.
Current 93 - Swastikas for Noddy

http://www.mediafire.com/?z0znyzmdqjm

Current 93 is what would be considered a neofolk band, but started with heavy industrial experimental soundscapes. This 1989 release referencing the British toy man who lives in Toyland begins the major distinction in their transitioning sound. Like Death in June or Angels of Light, Current 93 is basically a moniker for a single man working with an always changing group of musicians. In this case the head of the group is David Michael (better known as David Tibet), a Malaysian born Brit whose surroundings greatly influenced his interest of religious mysticism. His collaborators are very eclectic ranging from Douglas P., Boyd Rice, Björk, Andrew W.K., Steve Ignorant, John Balance, Rose McDowall, Genesis P-Orridge, Tiny Tim, Tony Wakeford, and you get the picture. Basically anyone who was involved in the European Neofolk/Industrial scene in the 80s and 90s has probably been on a Current 93 record.

Fatal Flying Guilloteens - Quantum Fucking (October 16, 2007)

http://www.mediafire.com/?juz3ktueenn

If I heard this record without knowing anything about it I would assume it was recorded around 2003 by a band out of San Diego or Los Angeles and released on GSL. In actuality FFG are Houston natives cranking out the sexiest, sassiest tunes since The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower. Now that may not appeal to you because it's not cool to dance or have fun in general, but sit in your room alone and try not to bounce off the walls with overwhelming hip gyrating energy two minutes into this record. You're either dead or have got an FDR case of polio. Anyway, great great great record, a real hidden gem among all the other bullshit that was released toward the end of the decade. Jesus Lizard meets the VSS meets bluesy masochists.

Botch - We Are The Romans (January 1, 2000)

http://www.mediafire.com/?mmntomgzzim

If you don't already own this record you either just woke up from a coma, returned from exile on a small island off the coast of Africa, or have bad taste in music. We Are the Romans is the essential metallic hardcore template followed by every band since its release. Actually, this is such a great album that I can only think of maybe three or four other records that have been released in the genre that are as good or better. Everything else has been riff stealing, MTV 2 featured, mall friendly bullshit.

Baroness - A Grey Sigh In A Flower Husk

Baroness tracks only, I don't care about Unpersons. Two GREAT tracks, Teiresias is probably in my top 3 favorite Baroness songs ever.

Flying Lotus - L.A. EP 1X3 (July 14, 2008)

Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (June 10, 2008)

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mytnyyyqy1g

"The main thing is being in L.A., around all types of creative folks who push me to do what I’m not doing. I’ll play something and they’ll tell me to play my weird shit instead. They’re tired of hearing the regular stuff, so they’re supportive of what I’m doing and challenging me to take it further. My environment is a direct influence. I wanted to tell the story of Los Angeles with music. It’s both a love letter and hate mail. Living in L.A. is a series of contradictions, and I wanted to get the good and the bad feelings in there. The point of the album is to take people on a ride and make it cinematic. I wanted this album to have a scope as big as the city." - Steven Ellison.

Technically these are two releases but they complement each other so well that I've always considered them part of the same tracklist. I'm a little biased here and prefer the EP. It feels a bit more cohesive, but that doesn't mean the album isn't impeccable. Filled with fuzzy, glitchy beats sometimes backed by soulful vocals. Gotta be some of the funkiest, sexiest music cranked out this decade.

Insect Warfare - World Extermination (May 12, 2007)

http://www.mediafire.com/?0mjyzxjvmzd

"Well, I was feeling my most alienated, depressed, and angry during the sessions that produced that LP. That discontent echoes throughout the record and that’s why it sounds the way it does. Every other record was written with idea of "hey, lets make 10 more songs for a split". With World Extermination I was trying to channel the same power I got from such records as From Enslavement, Teen Ass Revolt, Ulterior, Anticapitol, and Kings of Punk. I am very happy with how the record came out." - Beau Beasley.

If you aren't familiar with Insect Warfare, you're quite a bit late since they broke up last year. However, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the best grindcore album released this decade. Take a group of Texan elitist antisocial pricks waging war on false grind, add the production values of something that was recorded in two days in someone's living room, add layers of noise that even Merzbow would be jealous of, and add a hint of 80s nostalgia for the classics like Terrorizer and Repulsion. The result is the perfect soundtrack to go curb stomp girls who pierce their septums and wear Orchid shirts.

Best of...

The end of the year is upon us so from now until January 1, 2010 I will occasionally post some of my favorite records of the past decade.

The Angels of Light - How I Loved You (March 27, 2001)

http://www.mediafire.com/?zzjbmtezqmq

"I wrote the songs over the last couple of years. As it turns out, they're all love songs, in one form or another. The songs started out with just my voice and acoustic guitar, and then developed naturally over time by playing them with my friends, whose collaboration and contributions are positively inspirational, to me anyway. Our combined sensibilities feel very natural at this point, which I guess comes from having played most of the songs live a lot. The songs were recorded live in the studio, then subjected to my usual lapses of over-orchestration. In this case though, I think I reigned myself in, and the final sound/picture seems to fit organically with the basic songs and lyrics. Anyway, I did my best. You decide. Making this album was a labor of love for all of us. I think this intention comes through, and I hope you find something of use to you personally in the music..." - Michael Gira.

I don't worship any sort of deity, but every time Michael Gira sings it's as if he channels God. That's how powerful his music evolved to on this album. Don't get me wrong, I love Swans and the impact they had on the noise scene of the late 80s, but my favorite Swans era is definitely the mid 90s stuff with White Light From The Mouth of Infinity and Love of Life. This record, and The Angels of Light as a whole, are basically an extension and evolution of that sort of sound with a growing emphasis on words and melody. Think Leonard Cohen, without the coma inducing aspect, meets The Magnetic Fields, without the 68 filler tracks, and you're starting to get a very half assed description of what this sounds like.
