A modern guy

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life

Because sometimes I just want to ruin my life with heroin and endlessly listen to this record.

Pinback - Summer In Abbadon

ALL I WANNA DO is smoke filtered cigarettes and listen to Best Coast and drink Keystone Light and talk about how fucking cool we look in our vintage shoes and hair dye. FUCK THAT. Maybe I'm just lame, but this seems to be the overwhelming mood of everyone right now, making the title of this record very relevant. Abbadon is a Hebrew word referring to the Depths of Hell, and summer just started so...
Anyway, Pinback is Rob Crow and Absiv based out of San Diego. They make really great, memorable music that defies genre but resonates with anyone living in the desolate 21st century.

Trap Them - Filth Rations

I completely slept on this record and regret it because it is FUCKING GREAT. New Hampshire's TRAP THEM are the best current hardcore band around, mixing late 80s hardcore punk with mid 90s Swedish death metal and a ferocity unmatched by anyone else. This four song EP is their first release on Southern Lord.

Kvelertak - Kvelertak

Here it is: the highly anticipated debut by Norwegian metal band KVELERTAK. Featuring artwork by John Baizley (Baroness), production by Kurt Ballou (Converge), and guest apperances by Hoest (Taake), Andreas Tylden (JR Ewing and Altaar), Ivar Nikolaisen (Silver), and Ryan McKenney (Trap Them).

Thorns - Thorns

Thorns is the solo black metal 'industrial' project of Snorre Ruch. He's the guy that drove Varg to Oslo so that he could kill Euronymous and was sentenced to 8 years in prison as an accomplice.

You've turned away on your side

Swans - Love Will Tear Us Apart

I'm not too keen on Joy Division but something about Gira makes this song SO GOOD.
In 1988 Swans released two EPs with covers of this song: one had a red sleeve with Gira on vocals, and the other had a black sleeve with Jarboe on vocals.

Marduk - Opus Nocturne

Everyone's favorite Norwegian Orthodox Catholic death metal band.

EDIT: apparently sarcasm is hard to detect on the Internet. If you're not familiar with this band they are actually a Swedish black metal band claiming to be the most blasphemous band on the planet.

Two really under appreciated Swedish black metal bands:

Satanic Slaughter - Satanic Slaughter

Setherial - Nord

Rollin' In The Ruins

Get Hustle.

GET HUSTLE, there is nothing I can type about this Portland trio that will do them justice. Guitarist David Scott Stone left the band early on and was never replaced, leaving a cacophonous mix of electric piano, drums, and female vocals to do cabaretesque avant-garde pieces that feel like you're in a psychedelic nightmare. Also one of the best live bands ever; I don't think there is a female singer as mesmerizing as Valentine Falcon.

Dix on Dix

Just when this was on its way back to becoming a serious blog with a bunch of neofolk, I had the sudden urge to listen to some gay music.

Hawnay Troof - Who Likes Ta?

Had already posted this but the damn file expired. This is the best Hawnay Troof release BUT the audio quality is really bad. If anyone has a higher bitrate please send it to me.

Hawnay Troof - Get Up! Resolution: Love

Hawnay Troof is a Dirty South Fag Rap alter ego of Vice Cooler (member of XBXRX and K.I.T.). Listen to this when you're cruising for AIDS.

Cold Cave - New Morale Leadership

WES, I CAN'T QUIT YOU. Your last album was a disappointment, you signed to Matador, you're playing the Palladium, and I don't know how you put your pants on with all the electro girls hanging off your nuts. DAMN IT, I'M COOLER THAN EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE I OWN EVERY LP YOU'VE PUT OUT! I RIPPED THEM AND PUT THEM ON THE INTERNET BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE...Anyway, this was a limited tape they gave away at a show in New York. If you like "Life Magazine" and have never heard the Painted Nails 7" you aren't going to like it. Wes goes Sex Ads/Ye Olde Maids on us again accompanied with some shitty spoken word by Max Morton.

From nowhere to nothing

Death In June - 93 Dead Sunwheels

1989 release compiling rare and re-recorded/remixed Nada! tracks with David Tibet of Current 93.

Wicked men.

Gnaw Their Tongues - Reeking Pained and Shuddering

I am overcome with an all consuming ugliness. I find no better way to express it than through this hideous Dutch black metal record.

Thou - Tyrant

Too early

Nachtmystium - Eulogy IV

I've been up since 5AM aka TOO FUCKING EARLY but I need to watch the World Cup. Anyway, this is upped by request. Limited re-issue of this EP on Southern Lord, remastered by Scott Hull and includes a couple extra tracks including a Burzum and Earth cover.

Watain - Sworn To The Dark

One of the finest Swedish black metal offerings of the 21st century.

Back to basics.

Ministry - Filth Pig

Back from vacation. Here is a very underrated album released in 1996 by Chicago two piece Ministry. They are best known for their synth industrial sound but they stripped down everything and made a disgusting record with super distorted guitars, heavy bass, acoustic drums, and minimal electronics in the background.

No posts for a week. I leave you with this. Be well.

Crispin Hellion Glover - The Big Problem ≠ The Solution. The Solution = Let It Be

The weirdest album you will ever hear in your entire life. Don't believe me?

Watch this:

I'd like to apologize to everyone that has sent in music for me to post. It's taken me FOREVER to get around to doing it.

Vegas - Wake

That's not the cover art but it's the closest thing to a cover art I could find from them. Vegas are a band that mixes up neofolk samples and melodies with hardcore. They hail mostly out of Germany and they "may or may not contain members of Integrity." I'm guessing they probably do because they share a lot of similarities with that band. More info here.

Orphan - I Don't Have A Home (CS)

Droney kitchen recordings of Sabarah Pilon, a displaced Nova Scotian. More info here.

Caddywhompus - Remainder

Caddywhompus features Chris Rehm whose music I've posted on here before. Very fun pop music with a touch of maybe Dilute or Don Cab. Caught me way off guard, check it out! More info here.

Vampire Slayer - Mexicali Summer

Ambient electronic recordings by Valentin Torres (also of Maniqui Lazer). More into here.
Nachtmystium - Addicts: Black Meddle Pt II

This album sucks but people will still be interested in it.

The soundtrack of the programme

Performed by COIL on 1984.

Ritual music for the accumulation of male sexual energy.

Duration: 17 minutes

Throughout history man has made and used music for two distinct and separate purposes.
In recent years, particularly since the advent of sound recoding, the most popular use of music has been for entertainment - the temporary amusement and distraction of as large a number as possible.
As a consequence many people tend to overlook its more fundamental and ancient uses as a tool for affecting a man's body and spirit.
The many varieties of religious music from around the world contain a vast quantity of clues to the way in which sound can affect the physical and mental state of the serious listener, yet many find their association with religion itself - the dogmatism of the churches and the obvious shortsightedness of many cult leaders and their followers - too difficult a stigma to overlook in their appreciation of the sound and its potential, for its own sake.
Over the past few years, we have been involved with a number of contemporary music groups that have tried to some extent to investigate this aspect of sound but only with varying success.
On this record, hopefully the first in a series, we have tried to produce sound which has a real, practical and beneficial power in this modern Era. Specifically, it is intended as an accumulator of male sexual energy.
Although we make neither claims nor rules for its use, we do suggest that for maximum potency it should only be played in circumstances that are for exclusively male and/or emanistic in nature. What these are is entirely up to you.
Obviously, the execution of the piece was structured around concepts that we felt would work for us, in this case magickal and numerological rather than conventionally musical in form, but detailed information about the recording process, much of which was personal and relevant only to us, might well confuse and distract from the purpose.
One image or symbol which we draw upon that may be useful to bear in mind is that of Mars, often indicated by the male
Mars is the Roman god of Spring and Warfare. His qualities are dynamic energy combined with a vital stabilising discipline; when self-control is missing the unbalanced force results in cruelty and wanton destruction.
Mars is a deification of forces within Man which can be found in every culture in one form or another, even to this day.
Finally, since prejudice and fear of the unknown seem so far to have been unaffected by civilisation, we would like to state once again that, should this music have any power, over and above the banal and transitory titillation achieved by most records available now, it is a positive and beneficial power to be used and controlled by the listener, as he desires.

Thank you.

COIL, London 17th March 1984.
