Korla Pandit - The Universal Language Of Music, Volume 1

Download

We're going with an Indian theme for the weekly Corndog Castle Exotica party. Mint Chutney Juleps are on the house.

Korla Pandit was actually John Redd, a Southern black man who passed himself off as Indian after many failed attempts at a music career. The mystic Indian organist ruse worked and he became an overnight star, securing a television show with KTLA. Besides his ivory strokes, Pandit was best known for his Medusa-like gaze and a self-imposed vow of silence that kept him shrouded in mystery. Please note, the man narrating this record is not Pandit.

Throbbing Gristle - Part Two: The Endless Not

Like snorting turpentine washed coke for your ears.

Achtung!

Berlin Express - The Russians Are Coming

Download

Conrad Schnitzler acts as the German Paul Revere on the a-side of this EP. Frankly, the title track is nicht so gut. However, the B-side is the perfect public transportation soundtrack and makes this worth a listen.

Various Artists - My Dream Date With Boyd Rice

Download

Epitapes was a Massachusetts  based label that released themed compilations in the late 80s/early 90s. This particular one is a lot of noise and tape loops dedicated to the once sexy Boyd Rice. Complete tracklisting here.

Mind Eraser - Glacial Reign

Download

At the Shoppers show last night some drunk girl thought Mind Eraser was that "Dave Grohl band."
Uh, no.

Pulp - His 'n' Hers

Download

I want to give you children at Coachella while watching Pulp.

Pacemaker, pace yourself

I'm sure you've heard the news that At the Drive-In is reuniting sometime this year. Can't say I'm too excited given all the bullshit Cedric & Omar have done lately (scientology, bad haircuts, increasingly bad production value, over the top pretentious side projects, etc), and the streak of lame reunions occurring over the last few years.
BUT
their music does hold some merit, even if it's for nostalgic purposes. If you want to revisit your high school years or want to see what all the fuss is about, I suggest you check out a post I made a few years ago containing the entire ATDI discography HERE.

Over it

This will be my final "best of 2011" post. If you want the best overall album of last year, I suggest clicking here.

Gnaw Their Tongues - Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus

Download

Doesn't get more grim than urine soaked, bonedust covered dead genitals bathed in gall and skinned for the use of neophyte robes. No bucket full of bees guitar tone or frostbitten blast beats from the north here, just the unholiest of soundscapes.

Circle Of Ouroborus / Drowning The Light - Moonflares

Download

Ouroborus doesn't abide by your black metal standards. The vocals are clean and backed by acoustic riffs that transition into 8 minute ambient tracks. Isn't deviating from the norm and alienating yourself from everyone else what BM is all about? Conversely, Drowning the Light brings the more traditional fans with its corpse paint imagery and production that sounds like it was recorded in the heart of an elven forest.

My picks for "untrue is the new true" albums of 2011.

Don't call it a plug

SHOPPERS, a band near and dear to my heart, have undertaken their first ever West Coast tour. They'll be unleashing their unique brand of "hold me down, fuck my mouth/think of you when I touch myself" Syracuse melodic noise punk at the Smell next Tuesday. Come out, support your local punk bands, bring vegan baked goods, shotgun a beer, smash a urinal, etc.
To prep you for what is sure to be a great opener to 2012, I offer you their discography, including last year's debut LP that cemented their spot as my "best groomed band" of 2011. Make sure to check the tour dates HERE.

Sounds like "Power..." era New Order on Zoloft.

Horrid Red - Silent Party

Download

Sounds like driving down the Autobahn in the wrong direction with your headlights off after drinking too much cough syrup.

My picks for "2011 debutantes least likely to sign with Matador or Sub Pop in 2012."

Alva Noto - Univrs

Download

The aural equivalent of telepresent brain hacking. Glitchy techno that requires headphones for a complete experience.

Robag Wruhme - Wuppdeckmischmampflow

Download

Robag teams up with Kompakt to deliver one of the best DJ mixes you've heard in a while: a great choice of old and new tracks seamlessly blended by those trademark minimal Robag beats.
These are my picks for 2011's electronic artists "least likely to do a Blackberry commercial or Tron soundtrack."
