Glenn separates himself from the whole "horror punk" shtick to downright badass metal. Fuzzy, bluesy, occult goodness. The album wanes a bit towards the end, but an undeniable classic.

The band trades in their somewhat dated 80s heavy metal sound for a bit of soul. This album has it all: stripper anthems, heartbreak ballads, NOLA standards, and plenty of heavy riffage. Would be perfect if Killer Wolf wasn't so poorly timed.

Tempo is taken down a notch and we're given a more methodical look at Danzig. Introduction of wider range of instruments, Danzig's voice has more polish. A simmering grower of an album, but still a classic.

This one's a two parter: first three tracks are studio recordings, one of them is a (H)Elvis cover. Next four tracks are live recordings from a Halloween show.

The final album featuring the "classic" line-up, and Danzig at their most experimental up to this point. A pretty hit or miss album for most people. It would be a contender for my favorite if the production was better: Danzig's vocals are too raw at times.
Danzig 777: I Luciferi

Despite what most people would have you think, 777 is a good album. It was a welcome return to some familiarity after the disastrous 5 and 6 releases. I've often heard people complain about the musicianship and production on this record, but that's what I like about it so much. It's very technical, heavy, and cold compared to the classic era records.

Perhaps the most overlooked Danzig album and I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it's because of the lackluster cover art, though II and III aren't exactly the most aesthetically pleasing. Maybe everyone was used to the number system, but Danzig 8 doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Regardless, this is probably the heaviest Danzig album with fantastic guitar work. Biggest detraction is the vocal mix, they're too low!

And finally, Danzig's most recent effort. A true return to the "classic" era style with full analog and bluesy riffs. Heavily touted as the best album since 4p. Not sure if I agree with that, but certainly worth a listen if you're a Danzig fan.

more than happy to see that blackadavil is missing.i actually like all danzig albums more or less(except the one mentioned above),each one of them has a few(or a lot of) killer tracks to hook on to.ehe is easily one of the greatest rock songwriters ever,but sometimes he gives me the sense that he's taking himself waaay too serious..i mean, really mr danzig,how can you not like 'henry and glenn forever'???
great post, as close as I've seen to a scholarly primer in all things mentionably Danzig. Might take me a while to get around to the later era stuff(glad get a second opinion on 777, nearly picked it up on cd the other day) but you've laid down convincing honest arguments for every album, which is a feat it seems few internet-savy Danzig fanatics seem to have the capacity for. thank you
